How Kids Can Price Products for Profit

A selling price must cover every cost before it creates profit. The cheapest price is not always fair or sustainable.

Starting money: Any budgetStarter price: Use true costsAdult supported

Start with the smallest test

Your first five steps

  1. Add all costs for the batch
  2. Divide by the number of sellable items
  3. Add fees paid per sale
  4. Choose a fair profit amount
  5. Test the price with suitable customers

What to say

“Hi, I’m testing this idea with help from my parent or carer. I’ll explain exactly what is included and the price before we begin. Would you like to hear how it works? No problem if not.”

Understand the numbers

A simple money example

If materials for 10 items cost £12 and packaging is £3, the base cost is £1.50 each. A £2 sale produces only 50p before other fees.

Revenue - every real cost = actual profit.
